Saranya Ramesh

The more curious we are, the more we ask and the closer we may become to solving complex problems facing our society today”

Saranya Ramesh is completing her Honours in Biomedical Science at Monash University, Melbourne. Her thesis is on developing a statistical model to predict health emergency risks in elderly patients.

Passionate about global health, communication and education, Saranya hopes to further her research skills and gain experience in developing a startup organisation that can have a positive effect on public health globally. She strongly believes in equitable health care and universal education. She would like to focus on aspects that engage and empower individuals in local communities to take ownership for their health and well-being.

She is a Teaching Associate at Monash University’s School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Saranya also continuously commits her time and skills to community service. She is a student representative on the Monash Academic Board and an Access Monash mentor to secondary school students from rural and disadvantaged backgrounds. In her local area she works with St. John’s Ambulance, and has previously assisted newly arrived immigrants to integrate into the community as part of AMES and Embrace Education. Saranya has been formally recognised for her efforts, and received a Monash Community Leaders Scholarship in 2014 and 2015.

Saranya has travelled widely, loves learning new languages and understanding different cultures. She has completed a Diploma of Languages in Advanced German Studies and as a German Academic Exchange (DAAD) scholarship recipient spent six weeks at Leipzig University enhancing her language skills.
