Michelle Garnaut AO


Since opening M at the Fringe in Hong Kong in 1989 and the iconic M on the Bund in Shanghai in 1999, Michelle has been established as one of China's most celebrated restaurateurs. In 2009, M Restaurant Group grew to include Capital M on Tiananmen Square in Beijing, and today, includes M on the Bund and Glam. She is the Founder of the Shanghai and Capital Literary Festivals, the Shanghai Chamber Music Festival and Competition and the M Literary Residency. She's also the co-founder of the Village People Project, which aims to improve the lives of villagers and works to educate girls in rural China. In Beijing and Shanghai, she spearheads Mentor Walks, a women’s mentoring initiative that has since grown to multiple cities across Asia. Michelle is the recipient of the ‘Award in Food’ at the Advance Global Australian Awards. In 2015, Michelle was inducted into the 'Legends Hall of Fame' of Australia’s food and wine industry, and she was made an ‘Officer of the Order of Australia’ in the Australia Day Honours List 2018.

Michelle serves on the Global Board of Advance and has led the establishment of the Advance Asia Advisory Committee.
