Asia Education Foundation

Maureen Welch is a Director of the Asia Education Foundation (AEF).  The AEF is the education program of Asialink, Australia’s leading centre for the promotion of public understanding of the countries of Asia and of Australia’s role in the region.

The AEF receives funding from the Australian government to promote and support the study of Asia across the curriculum in primary and secondary schools. Over the past 17 years, Maureen has led the development and implementation of professional learning strategies involving thousands of teachers; conducted major international conferences in India and Vietnam; led study tours to and exchanges with India, Thailand, Korea and Japan; developed curriculum materials on India, and managed an Australian government strategy to provide grants to schools.

Maureen sits on the Board of the Australia India Institute. In 2008, Maureen was awarded an Endeavour Executive Award to research opportunities for collaboration and exchange between Australian and Indian educators and organisations. As a result, the AEF is implementing new programs to strengthen Australia¹s engagement with its colleagues in India, for example the 2010 Leading 21st Century Schools Study Tour to India for Principals, and an exchange between principals from Delhi and Melbourne funded by the City of Melbourne.
