Dr Jeffrey Chen is CEO of Sembcorp's operations in China. Sembcorp is a listed company and a Temasek Linked company in Singapore. The core businesses for Sembcorp are utilities (water, wastewater, energy and steam supply etc.), environmental and waste management, industrial park development and management and marine (separately listed). Prior to this appointment, Dr Chen worked with Brambles Limited for many years and has held several senior management roles in Australia and the Asia Pacific region.

Dr Chen obtained his PhD in Environmental Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Australia and has considerable experience in environmental industries (water, wastewater, waste, power and energy). Dr Chen is a Chartered Professional Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia and a Chartered Chemist of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. Dr Chen holds several senior management positions in a numbers of leading environmental companies in Australia and Asia.

Dr Chen is highly recognised by the business societies in the Asia Pacific region and has been elected multiple times by the “International Who’s Who of Professionals”. In 2008, Dr Chen was recognised for his “important contribution to Australia-China relations” with an Australia-China Council (ACC) Award for Science, Innovation and the Environment. The Australia-China Council is part of the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The Council was established in 1978 to “enhance people-to-people links and strengthen the Australia-China relationship”.

Dr Chen served on several boards of the subsidiaries while he was working with Brambles and he currently serves on the Board of Directors for Sembcorp’s subsidiaries. Dr Chen is also on the Executive Committee for the International Conferences in Asia and acts as a keynote speaker, as well as chairing the sessions.
