New York: Australian Institute Of Company Directors: An Update On Australia's Foreign Investment Landscape

Foreign investment is, and has always been, an important part of Australia’s economy.

Global trade and investment links include newly signed Free Trade Agreements with USA, China and Korea, the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement and negotiations are underway to establish the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area.

Committing to an investment decision in a foreign jurisdiction means directors and boards must be aware and understand current regulatory environments and policy changes. On 1 December 2015, Australia’s new foreign investment regime commenced, providing clearer rules for foreign investors, with stronger enforcement.

These developments and what they mean for directors and foreign investors into Australia will be covered by representatives from the Australian Treasury and Partners from K&L Gates Australia.

In addition, a number of new taxation initiatives affecting foreign investment in Australia will impose far reaching responsibilities on directors and advisors. Conditions in relation to taxation compliance will now be included on Foreign Investment Review Board approvals for investors acquiring Australian land and certain other assets, as part of the process.

These measures will be discussed by K&L Gates Partners to be followed by a Q&A panel session.

This is also a unique opportunity to join AICD members, government officials and other guests, and to connect with international director community networks in New York.
