Are Global Boards Asia Capable: Evening talk & panel discussion
Kimberley Cole, Thomson Reuters’ Head of Specialist Sales and Business Development in HK, is leading a discussion on whether or not Global Boards are fit for doing business in Asia. Kimberley has invited Claire Braund the Executive Director of Women on Boards Australia and UK to lead the discussion followed by a panel discussion.
During the evening we will be looking at how many global companies have Hong Kong or Chinese experts on their boards and discussing why we believe companies without Asian knowledge are vulnerable competitively.
Claire is a former journalist and public relations manager who co-founded Women on Boards Australia and the UK. These two organisation has over 30,000 members and work with leading global companies like PwC, HSBC, Google, Bank of New York Mellon and Thomson Reuters supporting their talent retention programmes. Over the years Claire's two enabling networks have led to thousands of women getting onto the boards of their choice. Claire and her team have run board ready, realising your potential, Getting Started workshops all over the world including Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. Claire is a highly respected global speaker on diversity and board governance, having written many reports on the subject with her views being published around the world. In 2012 Claire Braund became a Churchill Fellow for her research into the effect of quotas in Norway and the progression of 'Women on Boards' policy debate in France and the UK.
Deirdre is an international management consultant, corporate executive and academic skilled in developing and implementing strategic plans for leading change, improving performance and building and rewarding talent. Based in Hong Kong since 2004, she has participated in the dynamic growth of Asian businesses, working in HK, China and across the Asia Pacific markets. Her deep understanding of how culture and leadership impact business success has been applied to a diversity of industries including banking and financial services, FMCG, manufacturing, hospitality, transport and education. Her Board focus is the development of Australian - Asian business relationships in the areas of food, health & wellness and education. Deirdre is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a registered psychologist and Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management.

Kimberley works for the Finance and Risk Division of Thomson Reuters as Head of Business Development. She is passionate about gender diversity and women in leadership and is co-chair the Women @ Thomson Reuters network. She is regularly invited to speak on the subject of gender diversity and boards and enjoys mentoring and supporting Thomson Reuters own emerging women leaders program. In 2006 she founded Women in Finance Asia to connect networks across institutions within the Asia region.
