Courting the Greats, UQ’s annual alumni awards ceremony, celebrates exceptional alumni who have achieved distinction in their chosen field and recognition amongst their peers. Professor Max Lu, Provost and Senior Vice-President at the University of Queensland, will deliver the keynote and present the awards.

Mr. Matt McLennan ('91 Bachelor of Commerce, Honours) is the Head of Global Value for First Eagle Investment Management in New York, and is considered one of the most influential Australian investors in the world. A graduate in Commerce with Honours, Matthew’s philanthropic giving to the University of Queensland supports UQ’s Australian Institute for Business and Economics (AIBE) and a new scholarship at the Faculty of Business Economics and Law. Matthew manages a portfolio worth over $93 billion in assets and represents more than two million clients around the world. Successful from an early age, he was appointed a managing director at Goldman Sachs at 33 years of age. Matthew also maintains a strong personal interest in education, sitting on a number of boards and advisory committees for not-for-profit organizations and higher education institutions. These include the Harvard School of Public Health and the Board of the University of Queensland in America Foundation.
Dr Warren Hogarth ('02 Bachelor of Engineering, '04 Bachelor of Commerce, '06 PhD, Chemical Engineering) is a Venture Capitalist and Partner at Sequoia Capital, a leading venture capital firm in Silicon Valley, California. Specializing in building and fostering companies in the science and technology sectors, Warren has worked across areas as diverse as solar energy, bioinformatics and 3D printing. Working shoulder to shoulder with entrepreneurs, founders and visionaries, he helps emerging companies address the global issues affecting people’s lives. In addition to his qualifications achieved at UQ, Warren was a Fulbright scholar at Princeton University and earned an MBA from Harvard. His in-demand expertise means that Warren is on the Board of Directors for many companies including Guardant Health, Comprehend Systems, SV Bio, Future Advisor, and many more. Warren still maintains close links with his alma mater, and is a passionate advocate for innovation and entrepreneurship in Australia and North America.
