Doug Elix AO

Doug Elix retired from IBM in July 2008 where he was Senior Vice President and Group Executive for IBM’s worldwide sales and distribution operations, covering 170 countries and $95 billion of products and services. Prior to that he served as Senior Vice President and Group Executive for IBM Global Services where he was responsible for the worldwide operation of IBM’s Services business and its 170,000 professionals.

Doug is an Australian, and from 1969 to 2000 held a number of positions with IBM in Australia and overseas.

He has served on the boards of the Australian Information Industries Association and the Australian Institute of Management, was a member of the Business Council of Australia, and a member of the Prime Minister’s National Information Services Council (NISC). He was a member of the board of directors of the Royal Bank of Canada for ten years, until retiring in March 2011.

Doug was Chairman of the Advance Global Advisory Council and also a member of the Advance Awards Judging Panel. He was the Co-Chair of the Government’s Cyber Security Growth Centre Initiative, Chairman of the Data61 Advisory Board, a member of the board of the Australian Independent Schools USA Foundation, a member of the Advisory Committee of The Australian Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation & Communication Technology, and a member of the board of The Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden in New York.

In June 2006, Doug was awarded the rank of Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).
