2018 Advance Born Global Salon: Los Angeles
Monday 29 January 2018
On a warm breezy winter evening, overlooking Los Angeles skyline, Advance hosted its first Born Global Salon for 2018. A gathering of some of our community’s best and brightest joined us at The Montage Beverly Hills to meet with other Born Global leaders, enjoy Penfolds wine, delicious canapes and a special live music performance.
Guests included the Hon Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs; our future Olympians and Australian Division One athletes studying at UCLA; Jeff Bleich, former US Ambassador to Australia; Elizabeth Jens, propulsion engineer at NASA; Robyn Kershaw, film producer best known for the TV hit series Kath & Kim; Chelsey Martin, Consul-General in Los Angeles; Alastair Walton, Consul-General in New York, investor and entrepreneur Simon Anderson, and Susan Lucas-Conwell, Executive Vice President, CSIRO US, amongst others.
The night featured Advance Global CEO Serafina Maiorano in conversation with 2015 Overall Advance Award winner and member of the Advance Board Chris Boshuizen, and 2017 Advance Commercial Creatives Award winner Betty Who. They discussed following their childhood dreams in space exploration and the music industries, challenging conventional thinking, achieving their goals in the face of adversity and what being part of a global Australian community mean to them.
Following the ‘fireside chat’ guests were treated to an intimate performance by Betty Who, demonstrating why this classically trained cellist has become a runaway success on the other side of the music spectrum.
To oversee all upcoming Advance strategic initiatives in Los Angeles we are thrilled to officially welcome our new Director of Business Development, Lady Julie Hardinge. Julie resided in South Africa, India, Hong Kong, Japan, England, France and Canada before settling permanently in the United States. Based in Los Angeles after a long stint in New York, Julie has immersed herself in the Australian community and she has already proven to be a great asset to our community. We are lucky to have Julie as part of our global team.
