New York Salon 1 - the wrap up
On Tuesday 28 April, Advance held its first Salon, in New York City, USA. Advance Ambassadors, Michael Sternberg and Donna Green, kindly hosted our handpicked crowd of 40 Advance members, in their Tribeca loft.
Over a few glasses of wine, guests gathered in the living room to listen to editor-at-large of TIME, Belinda Luscombe, engage award-winning journalist, Prue Clarke, in a lively, informative and personal discussion about Prue’s career, spanning reporting 9/11 for the ABC and atrocities such as child rape in Africa for the BBC, to establishing New Narratives, a non-profit organisation helping local media in Africa deliver independent, truthful information to its people and challenging the existing bribery tactics for stories. Prue and Belinda, two extremely accomplished Australians, theorised about what makes Australians successful overseas boiling it down to hard work, our ability to ignore the noise and “break through the façade.”
Guests included designer Samantha Wills, photographer James Houston, creative director of the Harvard Business Review James de Vries and National Geographic photographer Rick Smolan, recently portrayed in the Award winning motion picture Tracks. We were also lucky enough to have Advance Ambassadors Sally Paridis, Steve Paridis and Odaria Finemore in the room. Most guests stayed well beyond the proposed 8pm finish time – always a positive indicator of a good night!
We took some great snaps over the course of the evening. Please like us on Facebook (Advance Global Australians) to view here.
We are pleased to share with you some of the encouraging feedback we received…
