Barry Bourne is a leading geophysicist with almost 20 years experience in the mining and resources sector. Dedicating his career to mining and exploration, Barry plays a key role in championing innovation at Barrick Gold, one of the world’s leading gold mining companies. Barry began his professional career in 1993 with leading international mining group Rio Tinto exploration, working on mineral exploration projects in Mount Isa, northwest Queensland.

Through Barrick, Barry also has worked on a number of breakthrough projects in the sector, including a joint project with the Centre for Exploration Targeting at the University of Western Australia to bring analysis techniques being used in the medical community to apply to exploration projects. He is a leader and champion in the use of seismic surveys (typically used in the petroleum industry) and several surveys have been successfully completed for gold exploration in the United States. His recent collaborative research efforts, “Automated Geophysics Data Analysis Tools for Objective and Efficient Data Interpretation” was shortlisted for the Australian Innovation Challenge 2012 Awards.

Barry is now Chief Geophysicist Global Exploration and is an active member of Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists, Society of Exploration Geophysicists and a Fellow of Australian Institute of Geoscientists.
