Where did you grow up/study in Australia?
I was born on Thursday Island, Queensland in 1949 but moved to Brisbane at age 3. I have four younger siblings. My early education was based in Queensland - I went to St. Brigid's Convent in Red Hill, then through St Joseph's College in Gregory Terrace and finally obtained my Associate Diploma in Quantity Surveying at QUT Brisbane in 1975. I also hold a post grad qualification in Project Management from Regis University in the USA. I also studied several human behaviour related courses overseas and the pinnacle of this was completion of an advanced Diploma in Hypnosis and Psychotherapy from the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy in the UK. I am currently completing an MPh at Bond University, researching the effects of stress in the construction industry.
Where are some of the interesting places you have lived around the world?
I have never lived overseas. However, I have worked in numerous countries in my career which include the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, The Philippines, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the USA, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore the United Kingdom, Japan, China, New Zealand, Holland and Germany.
Where are you currently living?
I am currently living on the Gold Coast in Queensland. However, I travel overseas regularly for work. I sometimes spend up to one third of a year overseas.
What do you do?
Around 40-50% of my current work is divided between university and corporate training and lectures on business, leadership management and project management related topics and some consultation and facilitation work in those fields. The remainder of my time is spent running my Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy clinic (Hypno-Psych Solutions) on the Gold Coast. I also teach Neuro Linguistic Programming and Hypnosis and Psychoptherapy in Australia, the latter for the National College at which i studied.
What's a hidden secret of your city?
I love to exercise in my spare time. One of the best hidden secrets on the Gold Coast is the Evandale Parklands behind the Council Chambers. The Parklands have a swimming lagoon which is a great alternative to the crowded beaches on a hot day. the bike tracks are also great.
What's your favorite cafe/bar/restaurant in your current city?
In Dubai, where I do most of my overseas work, my favourite places to eat by far are Calluccios at the Dubai Marina (casual, fun and inexpensive) and The Market Cafe in the Grand Hyatt. - I have taken my family here on numerous occasions when they have visited and they love it. My youngest daughter swears it's the best steak and chips she's ever eaten. The seafood on the Gold Coast is always fresh and tasty so I often enjoy dinner at a restaurant called Omeros Bros, located on the water. There are also three fantastic tapas places on the Gold Coast - Tonic, Samphire and Social.
Describe your adopted hometown/current city in three words.
Dubai (where I spend most of my work overseas) - innovative, fascinating, buzzing Gold Coast (where I live) - relaxing, open, natural
What do you miss most about Australia when you are overseas?
I miss my family. I have been married for 21 years and I have two sons and two daughters. I have never had a trip away of longer than a few days when I didn't miss my wife and kids and home.
