Adam is the CEO and Founder of Gilmour Space Technologies, a venture-funded rocket company in Queensland, Australia that is developing a new breed of hybrid launch vehicles for small satellite/payload customers. A lifelong space fan, Adam believes that rockets can be made smaller, cheaper, faster, and that the New Space industry would benefit greatly from having more dedicated access to space.
Adam graduated with an Honours degree in B.Bus (Banking & Finance) from Monash University in 1994.
When he resigned from a 20-year banking career to pursue his lifelong passion in Space in 2015, Adam was based in Singapore as the Asia Pacific Head for Corporate Sales & Structuring in Global Markets at Citigroup.
While in Singapore, Adam started Gilmour Space Technologies with his brother James, working with the Singapore University of Technology & Design’s MIT-SUTD International Design Center on various space technology projects; and in 2017, they were awarded an R&D grant by the Singapore’s NAMIC to develop a 3D printer for aerospace carbon-composite parts.
A subsidiary was set up in Queensland to manufacture and test many of the company’s new space technology prototypes, including a new hybrid rocket program in 2015. By mid 2016, their first hybrid sounding rocket was successfully launched from Westmar, Queensland… said to be Australia & Singapore’s first privately developed hybrid rocket launched; and the world’s first flight demo of 3D printed rocket fuel.
Since then, the company has achieved many milestones, including developing and test-firing the world’s largest single-port hybrid rocket engine at 80 kN of thrust, signing a NASA Space Act Agreement, and developing and testing a privately-developed mobile launch system for rocket launches.
Gilmour’s successes have helped to attract venture capital funding from top-tier venture capital firms Blackbird Ventures, Main Sequence Ventures and 500 Startups at a time when space was still ‘unknown’ in Australia and Singapore.
Their efforts have also helped to put the spotlight on space technology development in the two countries.
In 2019, Gilmour shifted its HQ to Queensland for the next phase of the company’s orbital rocket development and launch. As one of Australia’s leading space companies with over 40 employees and growing, Gilmour is committed to growing the space-launch-related advance manufacturing capabilities and space supply chain in Australia and the region.
