With our shared history and long-standing cultural ties, it is little wonder that many thousands of Australians come to experience the rich offerings of working in this international hub.

Nick Corr, Senior Project Manager, Skype

Where did you grow up in Australia?
Ringwood, in the leafy eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

What's your current role?
Senior Product Manager for Skype. I work on the bleeding-edge stuff, advertising and content models that assist, compliment and ideally extend the Skype communication experience.

What brought you to London?
Work and travel opportunities. My girlfriend and I had been keen to travel more, and I was lucky enough that my (then) current employer Sensis was setting up a Local Search joint-venture based here. So I got the chance to relocate to London on a 2-year secondment.

How long have you been there?
3 1/2 years.

How did you find settling into London as a professional!?
It was great. The size of the market means that for every "once in a lifetime" job in Australia, there's potentially a half-dozen similar roles available here. I was also pleased at how well Australian industry and technical experience is received here, and it seems like Australians in general are viewed as very hard-working.

What is the best part of your current job?
Working on technology and business models that don't exist yet. The idea that something I develop can quickly reach 310 million users right across the globe. Generally just working on such an exciting product as Skype which has genuinely changed the way people communicate.
