G'Day Chicago!
Chicago: CHI-town, Windy City, City of Broad Shoulders, …and the new Gotham (thank you, Christopher Nolan). Chicago is my kind of town. It is therefore with a great deal of pride that I welcome you to Advance Chicago, and invite you to join more than 600 fellow Australians in providing a welcoming and effective Aussie presence in this great metropolis. The Chicago committee and I are excited to serve our membership throughout the Midwest, the Great Lakes and Chicago.
Chicago is a rich epicentre for Australians in the United States. From sailing on Lake Michigan on a sultry summer afternoon, to downing a ‘dawg’ while cheering the Cubs at Wrigley Field, to grasping your hot cider as the snow falls around you in The Loop before Christmas, to establishing new professional networks – from Chicago headquartered businesses like Boeing, to the Chicago-centric institutions like World Business Chicago – it’s all here. Within the warm welcome of the American Midwest there exists a rich opportunity: in academia, business, arts and entertainment, finance, marketing, transport, manufacturing and not-for-profit industries.
Like my fellow Chairs across Advance’s global network, I encourage Australians who come to Chicago – even if only for a brief posting or university semester – to further their careers by joining Advance. We would be thrilled to help you succeed in your chosen field, and to provide you with the opportunity to connect with other Australians…and of course the friendly locals. It’s an important point: non-Aussie colleagues and friends of Advance members are always welcome at our events. In fact there is a membership category for Chicago locals who are interested in Australian culture and events - Friends of Advance.
Join Advance, membership is free!
Best wishes, Boyd
Chairman, Advance Chicago
