ANU students and Yale students will have a new opportunity to experience life on the other side of the world, thanks to an initiative announced at the conclusion of a week-long visit to ANU by a large group of Yale alumni.

Warren Brainard was born in Nebraska but grew up living both in and out of the US because his father, a Professor of Agronomy, took up a number of visiting professorships internationally. In 1990 Warren moved to Sydney with his wife and stayed there until the end of 2000 when he took a job with Novartis in Argentina. The event started in a cool bar on the corner of Melrose and Martel Avenues in the West Hollywood district of Los Angeles.
Amongst the traditionally chic LA crowd, stood a large gathering of Australians committed to helping each other, sharing ideas and opening up their respective networks.
The name Word of Mouth was born out of the Advance Los Angeles Committee, an acknowledgment as to how Advance has grown over the last 7 years, through word of mouth.

Advance is extending its partnership with Victorians Abroad to Asia. The first gathering was on 21 May 2008 in Hong Kong with guest speaker David Clarke, Director of Hong Kong based architecture firm, MAP.

Australian-based environmental entrepreneur, Fiona Mathews, established the international Earth Champions Foundation in 2000. Her personal commitment to fighting environmental degradation has inspired world leaders to support the Foundation. NSW Premier Morris Iemma today announced he would travel to the United States and Great Britain in October to sell Sydney as a global financial and tourist hub, and win thousands of jobs and investment dollars for the Harbour City.
