Member Profile - Jenni Baird

Despite its many well documented contradictions, Los Angeles is a city that has captivated this former Sydney-sider. The dream of acting opportunities and the smell of espresso, Jenni Baird is taking LA by storm one acting role and coffee cup at a time - Ms Baird is ready to take your questions…

Where are you from in Australia?

My home town is Sydney, New South Wales.

How long have you been in LA, when did you leave Australia?

I have been living in LA since 2004, and luckily got my Greencard in 2006.

So why LA?

I am an actor and my first job out of drama school (WAAPA) had been in the U.S., so it made sense to go back after my first Aussie TV contract was up. I love the numerous opportunities for actors in LA, the heart of this city is entertainment, and I wanted a piece of the action.

What is your role, why do you like it?

Working here is pure joy. The conditions are fantastic, I am also working with my brother, Mark Baird, and partner Michael Petroni, to open up LA's first Australian Cafe, called Longshot. We are almost at the end of our planning stage.

How do you see global Australians working within the world, why are we so sought after?

Australians have an opennes that is appreciated world wide. Our irrevernce also allows for a great attitude to work. I also see Australians as extremely adaptable and very embracing of other ways of life and we have a pretty solid work ethic.

Any interesting facts about you?

The fact that I am going into the restaurant business! Mark, as a barista from Sydney, Michael as a screenwriter and myself as an actor are the right fusion for an LA Australian Cafe. The entertainment and hospitality industries collide!

Favourite thing about LA, what are your hobbies here?

I do love to hike in Runyon Canyon with my dog. I love the convenience of LA and how you only have to drive up on Mullholland at sunset and the world looks beautiful again.

What frustrates you about LA/USA?

The harshness within my industry frustrates me from time to time. The U.S. is enormous it is simply a bigger mountain to climb. Not for the faint hearted.
